Carson Beck was one of 17 prospective student-athletes in the 2020 recruiting class who signed their National Letter of Intent with the University of Georgia on Early Signing Day last week on Wednesday, December 17th. The Georgia coaching staff offered the 6-foot-4 and 225 lbs quarterback out of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida back on February 27th and didn’t take long for Beck to announce his decision, committing to the Bulldogs just a few days later on March 3rd.
Rated a four-star pro-style quarterback by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals, Beck helped lead Mandarin to an 11-4 record and a Florida state high school football Class 8A Championship in 2018 as a junior where he completed 209 of 356 passes for 3,546 yards and 39 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. Although Beck and Mandarin were not able to repeat the same success in 2019 as they did last year, he helped guide the Mustangs to a 7-4 record, winning their last four games to make the playoffs again, falling short in the first round to Seminole, 59-32. As a senior, he threw for 1,843 yards and 20 touchdowns to 9 interceptions on 136 of 278 passing, and Beck also added 6 rushing TDs on 69 carries.
During last Wednesday’s UGA football Sugar Bowl and Early Signing Day press conference, head coach Kirby Smart commented on Carson Beck.
“Yeah, start with Carson. Excited as I can be. This guy’s come to camp since maybe his ninth-grade year to our place, has grown up and gotten better with each and every year. He came this summer, hung out with our guys. Can’t say enough about Carson and his family, the competitive nature that’s inside him. He’s been a winner,” said Kirby. “He won a state championship last year at Mandarin, which has probably never been done before, I think at their school. So he led those guys to that and did a great job.”
So far Beck is UGA’s only quarterback signee in the 2020 recruiting class, and he has already graduated high school and joined the football team in the Sugar Bowl practices as an early enrollee. But fans won’t get their first look of Beck in a red and black Georgia uniform until spring practice several months from now.
