The Georgia men’s golf team improved its position on the leaderboard at the Puerto Rico Classic, finishing the second round tied for second place.
The Bulldogs fired an 8-under 280 in Monday’s round at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa. With the best score of the day, Georgia gained seven strokes on Alabama and now trails the Crimson Tide by just one stroke.
Georgia is tied with Clemson, who shot a 7-under 281 on Monday, at 11-under for the tournament. North Carolina is one stroke behind in fourth place, and three teams are tied for fifth at 7-under.
Greyson Sigg tied the low individual score of the day with a 4-under 68 and is now tied for eighth place heading into the final round. The Bulldogs also got a 3-under 69 from Sepp Straka, who is now tied for fifth place and just two shots behind Alabama’s Jonathan Hardee. Three golfers are tied for second at 6-under.
Lee McCoy recorded a 1-under 71 and Zach Healy finished with an even 72 for the Bulldogs. Jaime Lopez Rivarola had Georgia’s non-counting score of 2-over 74.
Also, in the Puerto Rico Individual on the par-71 Ocean Course, Jack Larkin, Jr. stands in a four-way tie for first place. Larkin, Jr. has recorded rounds of 2-under 69 and 3-over 74.
The Puerto Rico Classic, the opener for the spring portion of Georgia’s schedule, will conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at BirdieFire.com.
