Chase Adkins was pitching like he was double-parked as he led the way in the UGA baseball team’s 1-0 victory over the UAB Blazers in a game that only took 1:57 to play.

 
 
Once again the starting pitching for both squads was outstanding but Adkins kept the Blazers off the board in a game where each offense struggled. Adkins finished off the complete-game shutout and ended his day with five strikeouts while only allowing one walk and four hits. Adkins ability to mix pitches and keep the Blazers’ batters guessing all day was a huge key in his exceptional outing.
 
 
From top to bottom, the Bulldogs starting pitching was outstanding in their series against the Blazers and it was crucial in their victories. Smith, Locey, and Adkins have only given up three runs combined in all of their appearances since the opening series and if they can continue their dominance, then the Bulldogs should see more wins come their way. However, the Bulldogs will also need to get their bats going with their magnificent starting pitching if they hope to win more.
 
 
The Bulldogs only earned 2 hits in the final game of their series against the Blazers, but they were able to manufacture a run from one of those hits. The Bulldogs did accumulate base runners in other ways but having only 2 hits in a game is almost not a part of a winning formula, and if they do not find a way to get it going offensively, then more of these close games may end as losses instead of wins.
 
 
The winning run for the Bulldogs came in the second inning when Austin Biggar, who hit a double, moved to third on a Keegan McGovern groundout and scored on a sac fly from Aaron Schunk. Manufacturing this run was crucial for the Bulldogs to earn the victory and the series.
 
 
The Bulldogs will look to continue their string of dominant pitching and to get their offense going in their upcoming two-game series against the Xavier Musketeers, which starts on March 7th.
