Georgia’s J.J. Frazier has been selected to play in the 2017 Reese’s Division I College All-Star Game this Friday as part of this weekend’s NCAA Final Four, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Tuesday. The game will be played this Friday (March 31) at 3:35 p.m. at the University of Phoenix Stadium and will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
“It’s going to be fun,” Frazier said. “It’s an experience I didn’t get to have in high school. I appreciate the opportunity to be able to fly out there and to represent Georgia one more time. I’m very excited.”
The invitation is the latest in a growing list of honors for the 5-10, 155-pound guard from Glennville, Ga. Frazier was recently named the State of Georgia’s Men’s College Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club for the second straight season. He was also voted first-team All-SEC in balloting of both league coaches and the Associated Press and was tabbed to the All-District teams of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the NABC.
Frazier completed his career with the Bulldogs ranked among Georgia’s top-10 leaders in nine different statistics – No. 1 in free throw percentage (.841), No. 4 in 3-point attempted (576), No. 4 in free throws made (450), No. 5 in assists (422), No. 6 in 3-pointers made (204), No. 6 in free throw attempted (535), No. 7 in scoring (1,628 points), No. 7 in field goal attempts (490) and No. 10 in steals (164).
He also broke the Georgia record for consecutive free throws made. Frazier connected on 45 straight attempts at the line, which also is the second-longest streak in SEC history. Actually, Frazier had a string of 54 consecutive free throws go through the net before hitting the floor. The first miss prior to his streak of 45, Frazier tipped in for a made field goal against LSU, meaning he scored 55 points on 54 free throw attempts.
Frazier is the first Bulldog to participate in the All-Star Game since Sundiata Gaines in 2008. Gaines, who ranks No. 1 and No. 2 among Georgia’s career leaders in steals (259) and assists (476), respectively, was selected after leading the Bulldogs’ improbable run to the SEC Tournament title that season. Gaines had 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in 29 minutes of action in the All-Star Game.
