Maeve McGuire – Georgia vs. Auburn game one
Maeve McGuire

The Lady Diamond Dogs had a rough go of it in College Station over the weekend as the No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies took all three games of the softball series with a 2-0 win on Sunday.

After a three-inning pitching duel between the two women’s softball teams, a leadoff error in the fourth allowed the game-winning run for Texas A&M to score on a Kristen Cuyos sacrifice fly. Another Bulldog miscue set up the 2-0 lead with a single up the middle.

Kylie Bass (6-2) gave up five hits while none of the runs were earned in her complete-game outing. The offense also posted five hits with Sydni Emanuel leading things off with two hits for the day. Maeve McGuire reached in all her at-bats with two walks and a hit while Ciara Bryan posted the team’s lone extra-base hit with a double off of Lexi Smith (11-0).

The Bulldogs left nine on base in the game, including five in scoring position. Georgia put a runner at third in the fifth after Bryan notched a one-out double while S. Emanuel stood on second after a bunt single and groundout, but the bats couldn’t bring in the runs.
