University of Georgia men’s tennis All-Americans Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski placed on the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Star Team, adding to the duos’ long list of accolades this season.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team features the nation’s top-ranked men’s and women’s players from the year-end Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, in addition to winners of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2017 NCAA Division I and III Championships.
Loeb — just a freshman this past season — and sophomore Zielinski established themselves as one of the most formidable doubles teams in the nation throughout the 2016-17 season.
They entered the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championship as the nation’s No. 1-ranked team and top seed before advancing all the way to the national championship match, where they fell in three sets to Spencer Papa and Andrew Harris of Oklahoma 6-4, 2-6, 0-1 (6). In their first season together, Loeb and Zielinski were a perfect 4-0 against teams ranked in the top-5 coming into the NCAA Championships.
Both Loeb and Zielinski earned ITA All-America honors and were named first-team All-SEC in 2017. They were the first Bulldog pair to advance to the doubles finals since 2005 after finishing with a 24-10 overall record and 17-10 mark at the No. 1 court. Loeb and Zielinski also recorded five wins against the other nine doubles duos in the final ITA top-10 this season.
The Georgia tandem will return in 2017-18, along with the entire Bulldog lineup that featured five All-SEC honorees.
