The University of Georgia just released the 2017-2018 Summer Outlook for the women’s basketball team which includes coaches and players’ bios as well as the 2017-2018 roster for the Lady Bulldogs along with Head Coach Joni Taylor’s 2017 signing class and a whole lot more.
A QUICK GLANCE
It did not take long for Joni Taylor’s recruiting prowess to have an impact on the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball program. In just her second season as head coach, Taylor inked a top-10 class and a group that includes four players ranked in the top-15 at their positions nationally as well as a transfer who was a former five-star prospect and Georgia Player of the Year.
The 2016 signing class of Malury Bates, Maya Caldwell, Gabby Connally, Que Morrison and Jenna Staiti joins an already potent lineup that includes eight returners. Among those returning is 2017 SEC All-Defensive Team selection Caliya Robinson as well as three-year starter Mackenzie Engram. Senior Haley Clark, who played nearly every minute at the point guard spot a year ago, also returns as an experienced player for the Lady Bulldogs.
In addition to the four freshmen (Bates, Caldwell, Connally and Morrison), guard Taja Cole and center Bianca Blanaru will also be eligible this season after sitting out the 2016-17 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules.
Year three of the Taylor Era comes on the heels of several impressive accomplishments in her first two seasons as head coach. The Lady Bulldogs, who returned to the NCAA Tournament in Taylor’s first year, have recorded six wins against top-25 teams during a two-year span, have had five players earn All-SEC accolades, managed a top-10 signing class and witnessed the development of Caliya Robinson into one of the top players in the league entering the 2017-18 season.
