Former Georgia track and field signee and volunteer assistant coach Jarryd Wallace is in London and started competing at the World Para Athletics Championships on Sunday.

 
Wallace ran a season-best 100-meter dash time of 10.82 to win his heat and have the second-fastest mark in the T-44 classification on Sunday afternoon. He will run in the 100m finals at approximately 4:00 p.m. ET.
 
 
On Friday, July 21, Wallace returns to action in the 200m and will run in the first round at 4:30 p.m. and the finals will arrive on Saturday, July 22, at 2:30 p.m. Finally, Wallace will join his Team USA teammates on the 4x100m relay on Sunday, July 23, at 2:30 p.m.
 
 
Wallace competed for Team USA in the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games. He earned a gold medal in both the 200m and 4x100m relay during his international career at the Games and has set world records in both the 100m and 200m.
 
 
Wallace, a former state-ranked athlete in both track and tennis at Oconee County High School, signed a track scholarship with the Bulldogs in 2007. However, due to compartment syndrome in his right leg and subsequent surgeries, he was never able to compete. In February of 2010, he made the decision to have his leg amputated with the goal of not just being able to run again but to compete one day as a Paralympian.
 
 
He is the son of Jeff and Sabina Wallace. Jeff is the head women’s tennis coach at UGA while Sabina is a former All-SEC distance runner for the Bulldogs.
