High school football in the state of Georgia will get the 2017 season kicked off with the Corky Kell Classic starting this evening when Lee County takes on Mary Persons at Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium in Macon, GA at 5:15 p.m. ET. That game will be followed by Houston County vs. Jones County and then a full weekend slate of games on Friday and Saturday.
While Thursday’s games will be played in Macon at Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium, the two games on Friday along with the five games on Saturday will be played in Georgia State’s new stadium which was formerly Turner Field. This year marks the 26th season of the Corky Kell Classic.

PROSPECTS TO KEEP AN EYE ON
In tonight’s second game that pits Houston County vs. Jones County, a lot of Bulldawg fans will be looking out for No. 55 Trey Hill on the Bears, and the 6 foot 4, and 346 lbs offensive lineman should not be hard to miss.
On Friday night, when Buford takes on Hillgrove, there will be a lot of talent on the field. One prospect to keep your eye on is Hillgroves’ class of 2019 DB Jaylen McCollough (2) who holds an offer from UGA. For Buford, look for No. 12 on offense. That will be class of 2021 QB Aaron Mclaughlin.
For Saturday, get up early and tune into Kell vs. Tucker at 9:00 a.m. in the morning. On hand will be class of 2018 WR Josh Vann for Tucker sporting the No. 1 and 2018 OT Dylan Wonnum who wears No. 74. For Tucker on defense, keep your eye on 2019 WDE Derrick McLendon wearing No. 11. The next game up on Saturday is Archer vs. Brookwood at 11:45 a.m. and for Archer’s defense look for 2019 DB Jalyn Phillips (5) and 2019 DE Colby Wooden (95).
Saturday afternoon brings Colquitt County vs. Norcross at 2:45 p.m. and 2018 UGA commit Jake Camarda (98) who booms kicks and punts for Norcross. Look for No. 1 on Colquitt’s defense. That will be 2018 LB J.J. Peterson who also plays on offense for the Packers at RB and WR. And if you see Colquitt’s No. 3 running for daylight, that will 2020 RB Daijun Edwards, who UGA offered this past November.
Later on in the afternoon, at 5:45 p.m., there is Mill Creek vs. McEachern. It will be hard to miss 6 foot 3 and 195 lbs McEachern class of 2018 WR Genuine Potts wearing No. 7. McEachern also sports a talented 2020 RB in Jordon Simmons (22) who holds an offer UGA. The 8:45 p.m. game between North Gwinnett and Walton features a couple of Georgia commits. For North Gwinnett, there is 2018 offensive lineman Warren Ericson (55) and for Walton, class of 2019 WR Dominick Blaylock (1).
Of course, there are more than those prospects I listed. There is tons of Peach State talent that will be on display this weekend; so, I recommend finding rosters for the schools with names and numbers to keep up. There are several good resources in that regard. One would be the high school football team’s website… if they have one, but I highly recommend HUDL and Maxpreps. Then, all there is left to do is grab your favorite cold beverages and snacks, kick back and enjoy.
