Georgia soccer is set to travel to Nashville, Tennessee to face Lipscomb (1-2-1) for the first time in program history tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Georgia enters the weekend holding a 2-2 record, with all four games ending in close 1-0 final scores. Following Friday night’s game against Lipscomb, the Bulldogs will return home to welcome the No. 8 Clemson Tigers (4-0) to the Turner Soccer Complex on Sunday, September 3 for a game scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
“Lipscomb is a very talented team that has won 12 games the last couple of years and they have had a lot of success against the SEC,” Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. “Clemson is still undefeated and one of the top teams in the country. We have our work cut out for us in both games. Hopefully, we play well in Tennessee before coming back on Sunday evening to face Clemson. It should be a really exciting game and it will be great to get home again to play in front of Dawg Nation.”
Scouting the Lady Bison:
Lipscomb played to a 2-2, double overtime tie against the then-No.10 Auburn Tigers in Auburn. Freshman Riley Henry scored both goals for the Lady Bison. Lipscomb is 2-6-2 against SEC opponents, while the Bulldogs are 25-0-4 against teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference all-time.
Scouting the Tigers:
Clemson was 14-5-4 overall and 7-1-2 in the ACC in 2016. The 7-1-2 finish earned the Tigers a share of the ACC regular season title. Clemson reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and ended the season ranked 12th in the nation. The Tigers returned three starters from the 2016 squad. Freshman forward Mariana Speckmaier had her first career goal, and tacked on two more for a hat trick, in the Tigers’ season opener against SIU Edwardsville.
