The Bulldogs continue to move up in the AP poll as they now sit ranked fourth in the nation, but this is of no concern to inside linebacker Roquan Smith.
As the Bulldogs continue their undefeated run to start the season, it would be easy for players to get caught up in the hype. However, Georgia’s players continue to show that they have the same mindset as their head coach, which is that the season can be equated to a race and that the only thing that matters is where you finish.
One player who has said time and time again that he is not concerned with the team’s ranking is Roquan Smith and as his fellow teammates continue to impress and build up the team’s hype with their on the field performance each game, he knows they have to stay focused, week in and week out, if they hope to stay undefeated.
“When you have a mindset, like we don’t really listen to all the hype and outside noise, we just focus on each other and everything that we do day-in and day-out,” said Smith. “When things like that come, you always hear types of things like that, but we’re just keeping our heads level.”
Leading a team in tackles that is ranked No. 5 in rushing defense, No. 3 in Total Defense, and No. 2 in scoring defense is definitely an incredible feat for Smith and these 2017 Bulldogs. However, he fully understands that the season is only halfway over and that there is still a lot of football to be played.
There’s no discounting the fact that what this Georgia team has done thus far is outstanding, but with 6 games left of the regular season, they still have a long way to go and according to an analogy that Kirby Smart used of comparing the season to a race, there’s still a lot of race left.
