Today on Bulldawg Illustrated’s UGA Recruiting Daily we look at Georgia’s defensive back recruiting focusing in on safeties.
Georgia has three DBs committed for 2018 and two of those are safeties in Aaron Brule and Rachad Wildgoose, Jr. The coaching staff have offered 18 total safeties in this recruiting class and have also offered 9 in the 2019 class. The question here is whether or not UGA will take another safety in the current class or are they going to concentrate on adding another CB?
A lot of that will depend on who they have as a priority on their target board and also Brule is the type of player that they could bring in as a safety but then move to ILB a-la Thomas Davis or Alec Ogletree. If they do add another safety in this class, Georgia may try to flip Trey Dean, who is currently committed to Tennessee. I am also looking at Tyreke Johnson, but it seems that UGA has backed off here in the last couple of months. That could be telling in that they may not be looking at another safety or have several DBs higher on their target board that they feel good about.
I also want to look at a couple of 2019 prospects – Grayson High Schools Kenyatta Watson II, who is currently committed to Florida State and Hillgrove High School’s Jaylen McCollough, who is undeclared. Keep your eye on Watson. Georgia has really impressed the Grayson players and coaches and he is definitely on flip watch.

NEWS & NOTES: T. Johnson has held an offer from Georgia since his freshman year in 2014. He visited UGA back on May 20th and again in August on the 18th. He was considered a heavy Bulldog lean, but it looks like Johnson and Georgia have cooled down recently. So when will the talented 2018 DB make his decision? He has said it will likely be before the December early signing period and he plans to be an early enrollee.

NEWS & NOTES: The Bulldog coaching staff offered McCollough last fall on November 2nd. He visited UGA back at the end of spring on May 20th. McCollough also visited and camped at Alabama and Clemson over the summer. Although many consider him a FSU lean at the moment, I think his recruitment is wide open with Bama, Clemson, FSU, Ohio State, and Georgia all in the race. McCollough was back at UGA for the Dawgs’ game versus Mississippi State on Sept. 23rd. The talented 2019 prospect also plays at RB for Hillgrove.
