Terry Godwin leads the Bulldogs in receiving in multiple categories but it’s what he does with the ball not in his hands that is truly impressive. And he’s not alone.

 

Godwin and the receiving corps have not been very involved in the Bulldogs offensive stats this season, but they still have had a big part in the Bulldogs success. Starting quarterback Jake Fromm has only had two games this season where he has completed more than eight passes as the Bulldogs have relied heavily on their rushing attack.
 
 
However, this has not concerned Godwin as he is only focused on helping the team continue to add wins to their total. Godwin has stepped up as one of the team’s leaders and his willingness to give up receptions and block more has rubbed off on other receivers and helped the offense have more success.
 
 

“It means a lot to us. For a receiver, you always want the ball in the air. A receiver wants the ball. But when you got that group that doesn’t really care about getting the ball and will go out there and sacrifice their body to block for another player, that’s a lot,” said Godwin. “That goes to show how much this team has grown, and also that room as well.”

 
 
The selfless play of the receiving corps has definitely caught the eyes of head coach Kirby Smart and he is very pleased with the team first mindset that the wide receivers have displayed this season.
 
 

“They’ve matured because it’s not about them, it’s about the team. There’s been no selfishness in that room,” said Smart. “That’s one of the things after the game, the first thing I did was commend the receivers because it’s not always in their DNA to be comfortable in that role, but they’ve also embraced that when they get their opportunities they’re going to make the most of them.”

 
 
This wide receiving corps team-first mentality is commendable and if the whole team continues to have this mindset, then coach Smart could have an outstanding ending on the horizon of what’s been an impressive second season as the Bulldogs head coach.
