The Georgia Bulldogs were named the number one team according to the College Football Playoff poll on Tuesday, but defensive end David Marshall may not even know because he does not care to watch the rankings.

 

Earlier this week, head coach Kirby Smart said that during his time at Alabama, rankings were viewed as rat poison and just a distractive measure that did not matter. It is becoming more and more apparent that Smart has instilled this mindset into his players at Georgia.
 
 
Marshall is a prime example of this as he said he will probably not even watch the rankings because they do not matter and that all he needs to do is put his focus on the next team they play. This mantra of taking it one game at a time has also been stressed by the head coach and it seems that his players are really buying into this idea.
 
 

“Rankings they don’t matter to me, just worry about the season and who we play next,” said Marshall.

 
 
When asked about if he had any curiosity in knowing where the Bulldogs would fall in the first release of this poll, Marshall simply said “Nah.” Taking it one game at a time has been the mindset that has worked for the Bulldogs thus far and keeping their minds of the rankings has paid off thus far. Since it has worked to this point, there’s no reason for the team to change their mindset.
 
 
The Bulldogs are two-thirds through the season and with four games left to play, they have a great shot of finishing the season on high note. The Bulldogs next test will come at home against the South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Will Muschamp, who first earned a commitment from Marshall when he was at Auburn.
 
 
If Marshall and the Bulldogs continue to take it one game at a time and not let outside storylines like rankings enter their head, then they should have a great shot at finishing the season out strong.
