GEORGIA

 
In 1983, Georgia became the first school ever to have both its men’s and women’s basketball teams make the Final Four in the same season.

Last year, Kirby Smart became the first Georgia coach to beat South Carolina in his first season since Johnny Griffith in 1961.

En route to the 2006 College World Series, Georgia was 6-1 on the diamond against South Carolina, including taking two of three in the Athens Super-Regional.

In the 13-10 victory over the Gamecocks in 1980, Herschel Walker had his self-described “best run at Georgia,” racing 76 yards down the North sidelines for a score.

The longest winning streak by either team in the Bulldogs-Gamecocks series is 10 … twice done by Georgia from 1908-1941 and from 1966-1977.

In his first game as a Georgia player, Kirby Smart recorded three quarterback sacks in a 42-23 victory over South Carolina between the hedges to open the 1995 season.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Highlighted by a Round of 32 upset of Duke, the Gamecocks Men’s basketball team made it to the Final Four last season, falling to Gonzaga in the National Semifinal.

Prior to Steve Spurrier’s arrival, the Gamecocks had enjoyed just one double-digit win season, but from 2011-13, South Carolina had three straight 11-2 campaigns.

South Carolina handed Southeastern Conference and Orange Bowl champion Georgia its lone loss in 1959, defeating the Dogs 30-14 in Columbia.
