Outfielder Cortni Emanuel and infielder Alyssa DiCarlo represent the University of Georgia on the Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Softball Team, announced Wednesday.
Set for her senior campaign, Emanuel looks to add a third NFCA All-American season to her resume. Along with All-America status in 2017, Emanuel was named NFCA First Team All-Region and First Team All-SEC. She ranked fourth in the league with a .426 batting average and hits (80), seventh in runs scored (49), and her 43 stolen bases led the league while also ranking 10th in the nation.
Heading into her senior season, the Missouri City, Texas native currently ranks third all-time with a career .412 batting average and ninth in hits with 240. Her 121 career stolen bases rank second to Nicole Barbers’ 257.
DiCarlo, a junior from Glendale, Arizona, provided power in the Bulldogs’ lineup in 2017. She slugged .640 while driving in 64 runs, the second-most in the league and 15th-highest in the country. She knocked 13 home runs en route to Third Team NFCA All-Region and Second Team All-SEC accolades. While also hitting the ball hard, the power hitter also hit for a high .360 average as a sophomore.
Through two seasons in a Bulldog uniform, DiCarlo has recorded 60 or more RBI in both seasons while slugging .632 and hitting .366.
Florida led all schools with five selections on the preseason team. Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M each have two representatives on the squad. In a class-by-class breakdown, the 2018 team consists of 10 seniors, six juniors, and one sophomore.
The Preseason All-SEC Softball Team is voted on by the league’s head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each SEC head coach voted for five infielders, four outfielders, three pitchers, one catcher and one designated player/utility. No ties were broken.
The Bulldogs begin the 2018 season in Tempe, Arizona as part of the Kajikawa Classic on Feb. 8.
