Georgia is Running Back U. Herschel Walker started the trend, and since then, Georgia always seems to have a group of running backs that almost seem unfair to other teams.

And it seems like each recruiting cycle the Bulldogs always manage to snag another highly ranked running back. Head coach Kirby Smart thinks that the great backs of Georgia are one of the reasons these recruits choose to play for the Bulldogs.

“Yeah. I think it helps tremendously to have the guys, even the history of Robert Edwards, Garrison Hearst, Terrell Davis, I mean Herschel (Walker), just back after back after back after back,” Smart commented. “Now it’s probably more prominent than it’s ever been because of the stage that Todd is on and what he’s been able to do and Nick and Sony’s exposure last year through the National Championship game.

The other reason recruits seem to want to come to Georgia is how the Bulldogs utilize their backs. Last season with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel was a great testament as to how Georgia plans to use its running backs in the future. Smart laid it out there about why Georgia is the place to play football, especially if you’re a running back.

“I think if you’re a premier back in the country and you say I want to go somewhere that I can learn to play in a pro-style, catch the ball in the backfield, I also want to be able to protect so that I can increase my value, and I also want to have durability where I’m not going to be beat up when I come out of there, there’s nowhere better to go,” Smart states about his program. “These guys recognize that, and that’s why Dell (McGee) has been able to recruit at a high level.”
