Georgia beat UMass Lowell 6-2 Saturday in the first of their three-game series at Foley Field. The #7 ranked Bulldogs are now 4-0 on the season.

Pitcher Emerson Hancock stole the show once again hitting his 83-pitch count after the Cam Climo struck out at the start of the seventh inning.

In his 6.1 innings, Emerson allowed just one hit, two walks and had a career-high ten strikeouts. This season overall, he has thrown 12.2 innings, allowed three hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.

“It is just about your mindset,” he said after the win.

Shortstop Cam Shepherd was another key player in the rainy-day game. He ran home twice and sent three of his teammates home as well. In the bottom of the second, Shepherd hit a single to left field that sent Tucker Maxwell to second base and Chaney Rodgers to home plate. In the bottom off the eighth, he hit another single this time to center field that sent Tucker Maxwell and Patrick Sullivan home.

In addition, none of UMass Lowell’s three pitchers could strike Shepherd out in the four times he was up for bat.

The River Hawks had a chance to even the score in the fifth. They had two outs and the bases were loaded. Second baseman L.J. Talley put a stop to the potential scores by diving to stop a grounder from Joey Castellanos.

The two team return to Foley Field Sunday for a doubleheader. The first game will start at 11 a.m. with the second following 30 minutes after.
