Daily Dawg Thread – 09May2019 – Class Of 2020 4-Star WR Marcus Rosemy – By Matthew Hall

The Georgia Football program currently has 7 commits in the Class of 2020 which is headlined by 5-Star OT Broderick Jones of Lithonia High School in Lithonia, Georgia. Of those 7 commitments set to suit it up in Athens in the future, only one of them plays the position of wide receiver. That wide receiver commitment is 4-Star Justin Robinson of Eagle’s Landing Christian in McDonough, Georgia. Recently, most of the attention as it relates to recruitment and the position of wide receiver for the Dawgs has been surrounding the #1 overall WR in the nation for the Class of 2020 Julian Fleming of Southern Columbia High School in Catawissa, Pennsylvania. It would be a major win should the Georgia Football program end up garnering a commitment from Fleming as he would bring highly prolific athleticism and game-changing potential to the passing attack for the Georgia Bulldogs. Even so, it would be foolish and unwise on the part of the Dawgs to focus solely in its efforts to recruit him and have him choose to go elsewhere while at the same time leaving other comparable wide receivers with major talent by the wayside. One such recruit that has a large upside at the position and could “change the game” for the football program at UGA is Class of 2020 4-Star WR Marcus Rosemy of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It would also appear that Rosemy is currently trending in the direction of being more likely than not to “Commit To The G” and play for the Georgia Football program.

Rosemy is no stranger to the attention of UGA Head Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff and he has been on their radar for quite some time. This can be attested to per the fact that the “Sunshine State” WR received an offer to play for the Dawgs all the way back in October of 2017.

The relationship between Georgia and Rosemy has fluttered little since that offer of over a year ago and the 4-Star WR even took part in a trip to Athens in early April.

The future collegiate star has been open and honest about his recruiting deliberations with the Dawgs and has stated on record that he has a really good relationship with the Georgia coaches and the program. UGA WR Coach Cortez Hankton has been heavily involved in the efforts to lure Rosemy to bring his talents to Athens and has pitched that the Georgia Football program not only wants but “needs” the Fort Lauderdale product. Cortez has further relayed the message to Rosemy that his physicality, blocking capabilities, good hands, and proficient routes are a must have in the Dawgs’ offensive gameplan of the future. With that said, Rosemy has at been somewhat wary about the Dawgs’ offensive scheme stating that it is too run heavy and that such does not provide enough opportunities for pass catchers to play a vital role in the offense. Cortez and the UGA coaching staff have tried to quell such fears and have communicated that this will not be the case and that he would have a plethora of opportunities to make an impact at wide receiver should he end up committing to play for the Georgia Bulldogs.

It would seem as if those words may have calmed the wide receiver’s worries about his role offensively should he decide to play for Georgia as Rosemy recently placed the Dawgs in his top 10 released on May 3, 2019.

Rosemy is currently rated the #6 overall wide receiver in the country and the #3 overall player in the state of Florida for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. He fits the prototypical mold for a wide receiver standing in at 6-2 and 187 pounds. There are many attributes that set him apart from other receivers from there. He has large hands that are reliable, he is quick on his feet and has great explosiveness as a route runner, he possesses the uncanny ability to beat out the defenders pitted against him, and he can go up above the opposition and come down with ball consistently. While Georgia is currently predicted to win out with Rosemy per 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, they will have to do so over other top programs that are still currently vying to land the playmaker to include the likes of Ohio State, Florida, and Penn State. Nonetheless, the odds for landing this top talent at the wide receiver position looks very promising as of right now for the Dawgs. Given that he does eventually decide to play “Between The Hedges”, he will in no doubt make a major impact and be a top passing target in the Bulldogs’ offense from the very start.
