Daily Dawg Thread – 18June2019 – Class Of 2020 4-Star WDE Chantz Williams – By Matthew Hall
The Georgia Football program has played host to a plethora of prospective recruiting targets over the course of the past week including UGA “wish list” priority and Class of 2020 5-Star RB Kendall Milton of Clovis, California. The Dawgs have pulled out all the stops with regards to how it has tried to pitch the coveted and highly sought after running back including having offensive line member commitments on campus at the same time as Milton so as to relay the message that he will have massive holes, lots of running room, and protection should he decide to “Commit To The G”. Though Milton’s recruitment still remains gridlocked between Oklahoma and the Bulldogs per 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, it has been noted and in the news that Milton is trending in the direction of the “Red and Black” following his most recent visit to Athens.
The aforementioned concerning Milton is great news for the Dawgs as UGA Head Coach Kirby Smart, Georgia Running Backs Coach Dell McGee, and the rest of the coaching staff attempt to keep the long line of illustrious and productive backs funneling in to “Running Back U”. Milton is not the only headliner that has crept up in the news as of late with respect to recruitment with the program. This past Sunday, Class of 2020 4-Star WDE Chantz Williams of Oakleaf High School in Orange Park, Florida, put the Georgia Football program among his “Top 3” schools further stating that he will decide between the Dawgs, Florida, and LSU on his father’s birthday on July 20, 2019.
Williams is currently rated the #4 overall WDE and the #10 overall player in the state of Florida for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. The “Sunshine State” prospect has an exceptional frame and athletic build for the position standing in at 6-3.5 and 214 pounds. He has a quick first step which is even more noticeable when examined through the scope of his size. The Oakleaf High defensive product is an efficient pass rusher and possesses textbook defensive technique on the field of play. He has great ball awareness, speed, and strength and a lengthy wing-span giving opposing quarterback problems when he is in the area. Williams can cover a great portion of the field and has good lateral mobility allowing him to cover sideline to sideline dependent upon where the ball is or where it ends up. His athletic abilities can be exhibited in that he is a multi-sport athlete also playing basketball in Orange Park. To relay and provide an example on how well the defensive end’s vertical abilities are, all one has to know is that he became the Oakleaf basketball team’s all-time shot-blocking record holder before the conclusion of Junior season took place.
The campaign to retain Chantz Williams’ services for the Georgia Football program is being led by both UGA Co-Defensive Coordinator And Inside Linebackers Coach Glenn Schumann as well as Georgia Tight Ends Coach Todd Hartley. Williams is well desired by a pile of college football programs across the land and holds some 22 offers. Many of those offers are from Power 5 programs to include the likes of Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Oklahoma among others. As of this present moment, the talented defensive star is a 50% lock to play for University of Florida Head Coach Dan Mullen and the Gators in Gainesville. Should Schumann, Hartley, and the Dawgs pry him away and have him “Commit To The G” it would be another prospect that the University of Georgia has been able to steal from the UF program and from the state. Look for the Georgia coaching staff to make a hard push for the 4-Star WDE before his decision day comes to fruition next month.
