4-star NOLA offensive lineman trending UGA’s way.
If you follow recruiting projections, like 247’s crystal balls, Sedrick Van Pran, a class of 2020 o-lineman from New Orleans, Louisiana, looks to be trending the Bulldawgs way. Since June, six of 247’s recruiting experts have projected Van Pran to Georgia.
So far, the 6-foot-4 and 305 lbs rising senior has 21 scholarship offers. UGA offered Van Pran last year in June, which was one of his first from an SEC school. He recently narrowed down his top schools from those 21 offers to 8 back on May 22. Seven of those are SEC programs that include the Bulldawgs, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. The lone non-SEC school is Oklahoma.
Georgia has a total of 36 scholarship offers out to offensive linemen, and so far, the Dawgs have 3 verbal commitments for the 2020 recruiting cycle that include two from the Peach State in Lithonia’s Broderick Jones and Rome’s Tate Ratledge along with Live Oak, Florida’s Joshua Braun. 247Sports and Rivals have Van Pran rated 4-star prospect as well as ESPN, and he is considered one of the top-three centers in this class.
So what are Georgia’s’ chances that the 247 crystal ball predictions will pan and Van Pran will commit to the Dawgs?
One big reason is that UGA was one of the first major collegiate programs to start recruiting Van Pran. As I mentioned early, the Bulldawgs were one of the first SEC programs to offer him, and they were one of the first major collegiate programs to do so as well. Sam Pittman identified Van Pran’s talent early on, and when Sam Pittman is involved with an offensive line prospect, it makes other programs sweat. But who are the Dawgs biggest competition?
As with any recruit from the state of Louisiana and specifically the New Orleans area, I know there will be questions as to whether or not the coaching staff can pull him away from LSU, but Van Pran has some family in the state of Georgia. On top of that, LSU didn’t offer Van Pran till January after the Dawgs, Ole Miss, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, and Arkansas had done so. The Rajin’ Cajuns even beat the Tigers to the punch. But look for the Warren Easton high school big man to take his time with his decision. Van Pran has mentioned he wants to take his official visits and hasn’t set a firm date to make his commitment announcement; although he has hinted at possibly the Under Armour All-American game, which will be played in January.
