Georgia’s starting quarterback Jake Fromm (11) knew that his performance wasn’t up to par, but expects things to get better in the near future.
The Georgia Bulldogs topped the Murray State Racers 63-17 this past Saturday in Athens, and Fromm was nearly perfect, but yet still wasn’t complete with performance.
“You’re setting the expectations and standards high, and you want to play as great as you can, and you’re chasing perfection,” Fromm said. “You understand you’re never going to get there, but for me, I really want to have the joy in playing football. I don’t want to be chasing so hard that I’m always down on myself, because I didn’t quite play perfect.
Fromm then commented that he’s going to work on consistency, but the most important thing is that he wants to be able to always go out and have fun, and also have a love for the game at the same time.
Fromm’s numbers were almost flawless. The junior quarterback completed 10 out of 11 of his passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. The Racers showed a little fight in the start of the game, but Fromm and company put on a clinic in the second quarter.
“I thought we could have come out a little faster,” said Fromm. “But we played really well in the second quarter.”
Fromm and freshman wide receiver George Pickens (8) as the two connected three times for 68 yards in the second quarter alone. He also hit tight end Eli Wolf (17) four times for 68 yards.
Fromm was very pleased with the way the team played on third down as the Bulldogs were 2 of 3 on third down while he was in the game.
“We were well over 85 percent on third downs. So that’s always good to see.” Fromm added.
Fromm also liked the way a lot of players got the chance to play and help the team out. Backup quarterback Stetson Bennett IV (13) got to see a lot action yesterday, and Fromm was pleased with his performance.
“A lot of guys can help our team, they can help the team in practice through pushing the older guys and you never know when your number will be called, It was an opportunity for them to grow and make some plays.”
Georgia returns to practice on Monday in preparation for next Saturday’s matchup against Arkansas State, and that will be another opportunity for guys that don’t get a lot of playing time to step up and get experience.
