Second-ranked Georgia begins a five-game road swing Tuesday against Georgia Southern at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m., and the Bulldogs will be the home team.

The teams were scheduled to play there last Wednesday, but the game was postponed due to rain. Then, the Bulldogs will face the Eagles (9-5) in Statesboro on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (ESPN+) and open up Southeastern Conference action at top-ranked Florida (16-0) starting Friday.

At 14-2, the Bulldogs are off to another hot start. Last year after week one in the SEC, the Bulldogs had roared out to a 19-2 mark including sweeping No. 22 South Carolina in Columbia. After going 3-1 last week, Georgia moved up to No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll and to No. 3 in Baseball America and D1Baseball.com top 25 rankings. Georgia was ranked as high as No. 2 last April in the USA Today Coaches poll and by D1Baseball.com.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs will start junior LHP C.J. Smith (0-0, 4.15 ERA) while the Eagles counter with junior RHP Rhett Gay (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Smith did not pitch this past weekend against UMASS as he worked on his mechanics. However, he had started the past three Sundays. For the year, Smith has pitched 13 innings with nine walks and 17 strikeouts. Gay has made two relief appearances for a total of three innings. Wednesday’s starters have not been announced.

Georgia Southern swept Valparaiso (1-13) this past weekend and registered a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs last Tuesday in Athens. The Bulldogs were shutout for six innings by Tyler Owens and made three errors in the first meeting with the Eagles. Georgia enters Tuesday on a three-game winning streak after sweeping UMASS including a pair of shutouts. The Bulldogs are batting .293 with a 2.39 ERA.

Junior OF/LHP Tucker Bradley (.421-6-23; 0-0, 0.00, 1 SV, 4.1 IP, 6K) is enjoying one of the finest starts of any player in the country. He ranks among the SEC leaders in multiple categories. He has reached base safely in all 16 games this season. Sophomore CF Ben Anderson (.404-0-13) ranks second in the SEC in runs scored with 24. Anderson has a 15-game on base streak. Junior INF Cole Tate (.375-2-14) enjoyed a stellar week, batting .615 (8-for-13) with a pair of doubles, a home run and eight RBI in helping Georgia go 3-1. Senior SS Cam Shepherd (.306-4-21) has been steady for the squad this season.
