9 GEORGIA (5-2) @ SOUTH CAROLINA, UGA (-21.5)
7:30PM ET, SEC NETWORK, WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM
ANNOUNCERS – TAYLOR ZARZOUR & MATT STINCHCOMB, ALYSSA LANG
Not a whole heck of a lot to preview here folks. The time for turkey has past, now it’s time to the Dawgs to get a hold of some chickens! Georgia comes into the South Carolina game with a newfound aerial arsenal on the right arm of JT Daniels and the explosive play of freshman wide out Jermain Burton. The debut of Daniels was momentum in many ways. Daniels’s 401 yard, 4 TD passing performance helped UGA defeat Mississippi State, land at number 9 in the CFP rankings, and bolstered his personal NFL Draft stock in a mock draft for this upcoming Draft! Many of those yards came through targeting Burton, who has established himself as a top receiving talent in the country.
It’s safe to say that everyone following Georgia football is looking for to the follow up to JT and Jermaine’s connection in their first game together! There are plenty of other storylines here as well. Can Georgia improve upon the horrendous total of 8 yards on the ground they had against Mississippi State? Will the defense look healthier, and back to Kirby Smart era historic levels/standards? Does the familiarity between Mike Bobo and Kirby Smart come into play in a strategic manner?
Truth be told, this is a game that Georgia should dominate. That number 9 College Football Playoff ranking and the opportunity to impress recruits in the only real way they can right now, on the field & with an explosive offensive/defensive performance, gives UGA plenty of motivation. As if they needed any more, players indicated in press availabilities this week that South Carolina’s upset victory over Georgia last year in Athens is a motivating factor as well. Regardless, Georgia is deeper, especially with South Carolina having COVID issues, and much more talented.
Looking for more of a complete performance from the Dawgs against the Gamecocks in Columbia than they had last week against the Bulldogs of Starkville.
