I just returned from a short stay in Georgia’s Golden Isles.  What a lovely place.  It has been a lovely place for years and years, dating back to when Eastern millionaires, the Rockefellers, Joseph Pulitzer, J. P. Morgan, the Vanderbilt’s, and the Astor’s, among others, came South.

They sojourned to Jekyll to escape the harsh winters of New York, where most of them lived.

While there can be some biting winter days on Jekyll, you also had long periods of sunshine.  At its worst, Jekyll Island on the Georgia coast is far better than they experienced back home.

After World War II, Florida became the hot spot for winter recreation and second homes with the advent of air travel, air conditioning, and mosquito control.

   In the old days, Sea Island became a popular place with the well-heeled.  While appealing to a more modest clientele, Saint Simons became one of the most attractive pleasant communities in the state of Georgia.

People from distant places want to settle in the Golden Isles.  Good schools, good government, accelerating growth, and great recreational opportunities.  Nothing to dislike about the Golden Isles.  Selah!
