DAWG BONES OFFENSE – GEORGIA
UAB brings experience on the offensive side of the ball with quarterback Tyler Johnston III under center. Trae Shropshire totaled five catches, 125 receiving yards and a touchdown, so he’ll be a player to watch. On the other side it was not the ideal performance for Georgia’s offense against Clemson. The Bulldogs were held without a touchdown, but also faced one of the best defense fronts in the country. Georgia still has the talent advantage and can continue to get the younger receivers involved. This week Georgia should be able to get its rhythm back against UAB and put up points quickly.
DAWG BONES DEFENSE – GEORGIA
Yes, UAB is coming off of a shutout of Jacksonville State, but Georgia easily gets the nod here with one of the best performances in recent memory against No. 3 Clemson. The Dawgs totaled seven sacks from six different players and made things uncomfortable all night for Clemson’s offense. Georgia’s secondary also did not appear to have any problems, despite its lack of depth. If Georgia can stop UAB’s run game and force the Blazers into obvious passing situations, look for a repeat performance of this past week.
DAWG BONES SPECIAL TEAMS – GEORGIA
Jake Camarda again showed why he is considered one of the best punters in the country with five punts, four of which were downed inside the 20-yard line. Placekicker Jack Podlesny missed a 36-yard field goal in the first half but bounced back with a chip shot later in the game. UAB kicker Matt Quinn was also 1-of-2 in his first game. Blazers punter Kyle Greenwell averaged over 50 yards per punt as well.
DAWG BONES COACHING – GEORGIA
Bill Clark has had a tremendous run with UAB, winning multiple C-USA titles in his coaching tenure with the Blazers. However, Kirby Smart moved to 11-6 against top 10 opponents with the win over Clemson. So much for the “Kirby can’t win big games narrative.” Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will start getting traction for head coaching gigs too with the game he called on Saturday.
DAWG BONES OVERALL – GEORGIA
It’s a clean sweep on the board this week as the Bulldogs just have way too much talent when compared to the Blazers. It will be important for Georgia to not overlook this game coming off of a huge win though. If Georgia comes prepared, they should beat UAB handly in the first full capacity game in Sanford Stadium since 2019.
