Finally, the first full crowd at Sanford Stadium occurred since the pandemic started. Roughly 93,000 fans showed up to watch Georgia win 56-7 against the UAB Blazers. Stetson Bennett started for the injured JT Daniels, and Stetson had a spectacular night. The “Mailman” delivered, the offense thrived and the defense kept UAB out of the end zone.
Though Georgia’s passing game looked elite, their run game was not as impressive as fans expected, but UAB has arguably the best defensive line in C-USA and a top-ranked line nationally. Georgia had success throwing the ball downfield. They acquired a big lead and because of that lead, the only reason to run the ball would be to maintain possession and kill the clock, so there are excuses for the lackluster run game.
Heading into week three, Georgia has their first SEC opponent, the South Carolina Gamecocks. The time for excuses is over. As Kirby says, “You are either elite or you’re not.” Georgia cannot be one-dimensional … they must be able to establish the run going forward.

376 total passing yards for this game. Georgia scored on many explosive plays downfield. Stetson Bennett threw five passing touchdowns, tying the current UGA single-game record. Three of the five touchdowns were from passes over 50 yards. Jermaine Burton a 73-yard TD, Brock Bowers an 89-yard TD, and Arian Smith a 61 yard TD. The Georgia deep threat is alive and was in full force against UAB.

Three targets, three receptions, two touchdowns, and 107 receiving yards. Brock Bowers had another stellar performance. Brock is 6-foot-4, 230-pound, runs a 4.5 40 time, and has a 40-inch vertical jump. He creates mismatches against smaller opponents and is fast enough to outrun them. Pundits have compared him to Tampa Bay (former New England Patriot) tight end, Rob Gronkowski. What is exciting about Bowers is that he is a true freshman. He still has so much more time to be developed. The future is bright for Bowers.

UAB was unable to garner a single sack. UAB has one of the strongest defensive lines in C-USA. The Blazer’s defensive line did not impact the game much at all. Most of Georgia’s explosive offensive plays were in the air. There was a large difference in talent between Georgia’s offensive line and the Blazer’s defensive line. Though the Blazers’ defensive line was able to apply pressure on a hand full of plays, Stetson Bennett had plenty of time to find an open receiver. The lack of formidable pressure allowed Bennett to complete 83.3% of his passes.

UAB threw a total of three interceptions. Georgia’s secondary shined in this game. There were interceptions by Lewis Cine, Kelee Ringo, and Jamon Dumas-Johnson. The Georgia secondary has been a point of contention for the pundits due to their experience level. If the secondary continues to play like they did today, their experience level will be a moot point. There is a big difference between a C-USA team and an SEC team, especially Alabama, who all Georgia fans ultimately want to beat, but more performances like this will get them closer to that goal.

Georgia’s defense has yet to yield a touchdown. UAB failed to score a single offensive point Saturday night. Their only points came from a pick-six that Carson Beck threw in the last few minutes of the game. The Blazer’s offense could not get anything going. They were able to outperform Clemson’s offense from week one, as Georgia allowed 127 yards rushing to the Blazers, but the Blazers were too far behind and forced to be overly aggressive. South Carolina will be coming to Athens next Saturday. Continuing the streak by not allowing a single touchdown to an SEC East rival will be invaluable to Georgia’s success this football season.
