Bulldogs To Watch: Georgia vs. Tennessee

JERMAINE BURTON (WR #7) – Heading into Georgia’s matchup with Missouri, Burton had not had a catch since Georgia’s game against Arkansas on October 2. He changed that in a big way as the Dawgs leading receiver in the win over Mizzou. Burton had three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Burton is a big-play threat and certainly helped Georgia with offensive explosiveness, nearly scoring three touchdowns. He dealt with a groin injury for most of October, but finally seems to be playing fully healthy.

BRODERICK JONES (OL #59) – Star left tackle Jamaree Salyer is out with a foot injury. On Saturday, he was seen in a boot and crutches. Redshirt freshman Broderick Jones, a Lithonia, Georgia native, got his first career start. Jones held up well as the Bulldogs offensive line did not allow a sack and gave the quarterbacks time to throw all day. He will likely start again next week against Tennessee. “He’s a young player but a freak athlete,” said Stetson Bennett on Jones.

CHRISTOPHER SMITH (S #29) – I’m not sure if Smith will have a moment that will top his pick-six against Clemson but he’s been solid all year. He dealt with a shoulder injury against Auburn and Kentucky but appears to be fully healthy now. He will be tasked with stopping an explosive Tennessee offense that has been able to air it out often this season. If he can come up with a turnover or two, the Dawgs should be in good shape.

JORDAN DAVIS (DL #99) – Jordan Davis is not going to win the Heisman Trophy this year, but he might be the best player in the whole country. He has totally grown into a fan favorite and is the face of the defense that most consider the best in the country. Georgia’s ability to stop the run starts with him, because most of the time he is taking up more than one blocker. If Georgia can stop the run and force Hendon Hooker into obvious passing situations, it will be tough for Tennessee to have success against this defense.

CHANNING TINDALL (LB #41) – Tindall leads the team in tackles with 45 this season. With the overall talent on the defense, sometimes players like Tindall fly under the radar. He’s one of the fastest linebackers in the country and can track down just about any player sideline-to-sideline. Tackling is one of Tindall’s best traits too, which could be key to stopping Tennessee’s explosive plays.

LATAVIOUS BRINI (DB #36) – Brini mans the STAR position for Georgia, which is the Dawgs’ version of a nickel cornerback. He was expected to split time at the position with Tykee Smith, but Smith dealt with a foot injury before eventually tearing his ACL. Brini has embraced his starting role and played with more confidence in the last few weeks, while playing one of the more complex positions on Georgia’s defense. He also laid one of the biggest hits of the game against a Missouri wide receiver on Saturday.

BROCK BOWERS (TE #19) – Bowers continues his sensational freshman campaign. He nearly scored against Missouri, stiff-arming a defender and getting inside the five yard line. Bowers’ blend of size and speed makes him one of the best in the country. Yes, Georgia has a lot of talented players on offense, but Bowers needs more than just four targets in a game. Look for the Bulldogs to get him more involved against the Vols.
