VB: UGA Hosts Clemson in Exhibition Today
The University of Georgia women’s volleyball team will host the Clemson Tigers in an exhibition match Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum. First serve between the Bulldogs and Tigers is set for 1 p.m.
Admission to Saturday’s exhibition is free for all fans. The match will not be streamed, and live stats will not be available. Follow along on the official Twitter account of Georgia Volleyball (@UGAvolleyball) for updates from Saturday’s match.
Saturday’s exhibition will be the only of the preseason for the Bulldogs before officially opening the 2022 season at home next Friday, Aug. 26, against Troy in front of a nationally televised audience on SEC Network. Georgia will host Troy, Chattanooga, and Santa Clara in the Classic City Clash Aug. 26-27 at Stegeman Coliseum.
The 2022 campaign will be the sixth under the direction of head volleyball coach Tom Black and his staff. The 2021 squad concluded the season 12-17 overall and 8-10 in Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs were picked to finish ninth by the league’s head coaches this season.
The Bulldogs return senior outside hitters Kacie Evans and Amber Stivrins along with veteran middle blocker and graduate student Sage Powell. The middle will be bolstered by 6-5 Kentucky transfer Sophie Fischer. Senior Meghan Froemming will be expected to start on the opposite pin after holding down that position for much of the 2021 season. Returning defensive specialists Bailey Cox and Mallory Downing will patrol the back line again in 2022.
