Dawg Bones Offense: Georgia

The Dawgs were giving Tennessee’s highly regarded defense fits up until the rain limited play-calling to strictly a running attack. Georgia comes into the Mississippi State game averaging 40 points a game compared to Mississippi State’s 32. When breaking down the total offense, Georgia averages 320 yards passing per game and 194 yards rushing a game compared to MSU averaging 325 yards passing a game and just 80 yards on the ground. Georgia certainly possesses the statistical advantage, but they also have the better offensive line, with more depth and playmakers to support Stetson Bennett.

Dawg Bones Defense: Georgia

Georgia just shut down Tennessee’s No. 1 ranked offense in the country and did so with ease. The Dawgs come into the MSU game averaging giving up just 10 points a game compared to a Mississippi State defense that is relinquishing 24 points a game. Due to Georgia’s remarkable recruiting classes over the past few years, the Dawgs have more depth on the defensive side of the ball than Mississippi State and will eventually show on Saturday. While Mike Leach has done a solid job producing points against SEC defenses, the Bulldogs have too much depth and talent and that’s why they take the bone.

Dawg Bones Special Teams: Georgia

Jack Podlesny was two for two against Tennessee and still leads Georgia all time in field-goal percentage. Brett Thorson also boomed a 75-yard punt this past Saturday pinning the Vols inside the one. In just four punts, Thorson averaged 50 yards per attempt. The Dawg’s special teams this season has been a competitive advantage whereas MSU has experienced the opposite. The opposing Bulldogs are averaging a net punt average of 37 yards per kick and are just 7 of 11 on field goals this season.

Dawg Bones Coaching: Georgia

Despite Mike Leach’s air raid system and potent offensive attack, Kirby Smart takes the edge in the coaching battle. Coach Smart has built a surrounding staff that he regards as the best he has had at UGA, and they have shown why with their undefeated start to the season. ESPN’s David Hale observed after the Tennessee game that Georgia’s championship pedigree is built not on fireworks and drama, “but 11 guys doing the right thing at the same time, one play after another, again and again.” That is a testament to the meticulous preparation of Kirby Smart and the entire coaching staff.

Georgia has yet again shown why they are the No. 1 team in the country. After absolutely dominating the Vols, Georgia has shown that they can win through their offensive scheme, beat you up physically on the defensive side of the ball, play the field position game through special teams, and make field goals when it matters. The Georgia Bulldogs are showing the nation that they are the epitome of college football.
