WGOLF: Caterina Don named co-SEC Golfer of the Week
Georgia’s Caterina Don was named co-SEC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, a day after she captured medalist honors at the San Diego State Classic.
Don shot 2-under 70 in the final round a the Farms Golf Club to finish the 54-hole event at even-par 216 and inch past teammate Jo Hua Hung, who finished second. Don made four birdies on the back nine Tuesday to defeat Hung by one stroke.
Don also led Georgia to a season-best second-best finish in the team field.
A senior from Pinerolo, Italy, the victory was Don’s second as a Bulldog. She also won her collegiate debut, the 2019 Minnesota Invitational. Don has now posted top-10 finishes in each of Georgia’s events during the 2023 calendar.
Don became the third Bulldog to capture an individual title this season, following Jenny Bae at the Illini Invitational last fall and Hung at the Lady Bulldog Individual Championship last month. This marks just the fifth time in the past 45 years that three different Georgia golfers won individual titles in a single season.
The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when they compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Feb. 27-March 1. That tournament will be televised live each day by the Golf Channel.

» Georgia is back on the road to face the Kentucky Wildcats at 7 p.m. ET Thursday in Lexington.
» The Lady Bulldogs are playing some of the best basketball in the SEC, with four wins in their last five games. The lone loss during this stretch came in an 82-77 OT thriller at No. 3 LSU — a game which Georgia led for over 25 minutes (Georgia’s nine losses this year have come by an average of just 8.0 points per game).
» As the SEC’s leader in steals (10.9 per game) and turnover margin (+4.08), Georgia’s defense has given opponents problems all year long. As of late, the Lady Bulldogs have stepped it up offensively. Over the last two games, Georgia has hit 53.3 percent from the floor and averaged 80 points per contest.
» Against Vanderbilt, Georgia knocked in 67 percent of its shots — the program’s best single-game shooting percentage since 1988 and the sixth-best in school history.
» Georgia forced 28 Florida turnovers on Sunday, marking the 16th time this season the Lady Bulldogs have forced 20 or more opponent miscues. That total leads the SEC, with Georgia owning a 14-2 record in those games.
» The Lady Bulldogs have recorded 10 or more steals 15 times this year. Georgia currently has eight players with 20-plus steals — the most among all Division I Power 5 programs.
» Georgia is looking for its first win in Lexington since 2018. The Lady Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 39-22, including a 14-12 mark at Memorial Coliseum.
» Georgia is led by fifth-year senior Diamond Battles, who has scored in double figures in 10-straight games.
» Coach ABE’s teams boast a 19-3 record in the month of February over the last three seasons (two at UCF and this year at Georgia).
Dasha Vidmanova was named the SEC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Following a runner-up finish at the 2023 ITA National Team Indoors Championship, the third-ranked University of Georgia women’s tennis team earned a Southeastern Conference weekly honor, as announced by the league office in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Dasha Vidmanova was named the SEC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week. This is the third career weekly accolade for Vidmanova – she was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice.
No. 40 Vidmanova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, went 3-0 on the week, helping guide the Bulldogs to wins over No. 6 Stanford, No. 14 Iowa State and No. 15 Oklahoma. On the opening day of the tournament, Vidmanova provided the first singles win of the day for the Bulldogs against Stanford, defeating No. 41 Alexandra Yepifanova 6-1, 7-6(6). In Georgia’s quarterfinal match against Oklahoma, Vidmanova also provided the first singles point after topping No. 96 Carmen Corley 6-2, 7-6(7). She picked up her final win of the week in the semifinals against Iowa State in a straight-set win over No. 53 Ange Oby Kajuru. Vidmanova is a team-best 19-3 on the season, including six wins against ranked opponents and is 7-1 in her previous 10 matches.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sunday, Feb. 19 when it plays host to Georgia Tech at 1 p.m.
