BSB: Corey Collins was selected by the Mets in the sixth round

University of Georgia infielder/outfielder Corey Collins was selected by the New York Mets Monday afternoon in the sixth round with the 173rd overall pick of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.

The Suwanee native appeared in 195 games in his Georgia career, including 184 starts while posting a .289 batting average with 45 home runs, 31 doubles and 152 RBI. The 6-3, 236-pounder was named Second Team All-American by Baseball America as a first baseman in 2024. He notched a career-year in batting .354 with 20 home runs, 58 RBI, 56 walks and a school record 28 hit by pitches. Collins appeared in 52 games with 46 starts at five different positions for the 10th-ranked Bulldogs. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Athens Regional and was named to the regional All-Tournament Team.

Collins’ 45 career home runs rank fourth in school history. He tied a school record with three home runs in a game, doing it in his first three at bats against Wofford on March 19.

The 2024 MLB Draft will conclude tomorrow at 2 p.m. with rounds 11-20. It will be streamed on MLB.com.

Collins is the second Bulldog selected in the 2024 MLB Draft after Charlie Condon was selected third overall by the Colorado Rockies. Collins will join left-handed pitcher Dylan Ross in the Mets organization, who was drafted in 2022 to the Mets in the 13th round.

The Bulldogs have a string of 51 straight seasons with at least one player signing a professional contract. Also, Georgia has had at least one player drafted going back to 1987.
