MBB: Georgia Defeats Charlotte in Exhibition
The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Charlotte’s 49ers, 86-59, on Saturday in a preseason exhibition at Halton Arena. Freshman Asa Newell led a quartet of Bulldogs in double figures with 20 points.

• In addition to Newell’s 20 points, Silas Demary Jr. added 15 and Blue Cain and RJ Godfrey chipped in 13 apiece.
• Somto Cyril led Georgia with seven rebounds and three blocks.
• Tyrin Lawrence paced the Bulldogs with five assists, with no turnovers, and three steals. Godfrey also had three steals.
• All told, 10 Bulldogs put up points in the victory.
• Georgia shot 58.6 percent from the floor and outrebounded the 49ers 37-27.

“We got better today,” head coach Mike White said. “There are a lot of positives we can take, and there are a lot of things we can clean up, of course. That’s why we play these games. We’re appreciative to Charlotte for giving us the opportunity to play in front of a road environment. I thought we got balanced efforts from a bunch of different guys. I really like where we’re at in terms of culture. This is something we can build upon. It’s really, really early, and we’ve got a ways to go.”

The Bulldogs will play their second of two preseason exhibitions a week from Tuesday when they host UCF at Stegeman Coliseum on Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that contest are $5 each for the public and are available at www.georgiadogs.com/mbbtix. Proceeds from the game with benefit UGA Miracle, the largest student-run philanthropy in the state of Georgia which is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families battling pediatric illness.
