Smart Preps for Milroe in Upcoming Alabama Game

Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart addressed the media on Tuesday evening at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall ahead of a much anticipated matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Going into what could be the game of the year in all of college football, the biggest key for the Bulldogs will likely be containing Alabama’s Heisman candidate quarterback Jalen Milroe. Coach Smart, when asked about how to prepare for Milroe, said:

“There is no simulation, I think that’s the problem. He can go as fast backwards as he can go forward.”

Last December, Bulldog Nation became aware of just how elusive Milroe can be, rushing 14 times with a 30-yard rush on their way to winning the SEC Championship in a heartbreaking upset. With that being said, the Georgia defense was able to sack him four times, two of them by current Bulldog linebacker Jalon Walker. While it will certainly be difficult for Smart and his staff to give his less-experienced players a live look on Milroe, the veteran presence of players such as Walker and Starks will help on gameday. So far this season, Milroe has 156 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns in each of his first three games.

Georgia has not beat the Tide in Tuscaloosa since 2007 when Matthew Stafford found Mikey Henderson for a touchdown in overtime to win 26-23. If the Dawgs want to defeat their nemesis on the road for the first time in over 15 years, keeping Milroe on his toes for 60 minutes will go a long way in securing a victory.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM on ABC.
