Offensive Player of the Game – Offensive Line
My offensive player of the week comes down to one word but multiple people: PLAYERS! The offensive line has developed into a great group that works and communicates with each other no matter what position they are at. The ability to learn each position has become the foundation of the offensive line. Every one of them must develop, or they will be irrelevant. Saturday night, they worked as good as we have seen them all year long. Earnest Greene III, Dylan Fairchild, Jared Wilson, Micah Morris, Xavier Truss and Drew Bobo along with Monroe Freeling have produced more and more each game. Their performance Saturday night in Texas freed the running game up and protected Carson Beck, which allowed Georgia to beat the number one team in the nation at their home field for the first time since 2012. The Dawgs are on a roll, and it starts with the offensive line. That group is my player of the game for the offense this week.
Defensive Player of the Game – Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker is a man! And everybody in the state of Texas now knows that. Texas’s offensive line certainly knows the capability of Walker. The junior out of the great state of North Carolina dominated the nationally televised game against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. Walker played at a different level, a higher level than the Longhorns had seen all season. His eight solo tackles were highlighted by three sacks and three tackles for a loss. Walker’s speed and knowledge were on display for all NFL teams to see. Jalen certainly moved up a few notches on the NFL Draft boards, and I project him to be a top 10 pick come April of next year. That’s right, I do not think he’ll be here for a senior year as Walker is developing into a dominant player at both the college and what will be the NFL level.
Special Teams Player of the Game – Brett Thorson and Peyton Woodring, the best kicking duo in football…
First, there was Batman and Robin, then came the Green Hornet and Kato, but now the Bulldogs have the best kicking duo in all of the marvelous world of college football. Our Australian heartthrob Brett Thorson continues to shatter any records of return yards per punt as Thorson averaged 54 yards on four punts with two inside the 10-yard line. His first punt of 58 yards flipped the field and gave Texas their first possession at the 12-yard line. His counterpart Peyton Woodring continues his stellar career with three clutch, big-time field goals that resembled Kirby hammering a nail into the Texas coffin. Georgia has one of the best kicking duos in college football, believe that!
Unsung Hero of the Game – The National Media
Let’s give a big shout out to our national media friends who doubted the Bulldogs and laughed in their face. That’s all Kirby needed to put his men in their place. All the experts picked the Longhorns to whip the Bulldogs and every one of the so-called experts were dead wrong. If you’re not a Bulldog, you don’t know what it takes to be a Bulldog, and you certainly don’t qualify as an expert on our football team.
