Stats That Matter: Georgia vs. Tennessee 2024

0 – Turnovers by the Georgia Offense

Over the past few games, the turnover bug has been a constant factor in the Bulldogs’ offensive attack. However, Beck and the offense turned the ball over zero times, a feat that has not been achieved since the Auburn game on October 5. The zero-turnover game came at the perfect time in the Dawgs’ season, as playoff hopes were on the line. The Bulldogs were able to defend their home field once again, even with many members of the media doubting their abilities.

5 – Sacks of Nico Iamaleava

The Junkyard Dawgs tallied five sacks of Tennessee freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava. This was a huge factor in Georgia’s defensive success, as some of the sacks were a dagger in the Volunteers’ drives. Also, they were huge for the crowd, as Sanford seems to get a bit louder when the opposing quarterback gets taken down in the backfield. Chaz Chambliss led the team in sacks with two and is having the season of his career. If the pressure against quarterbacks stays alive, this team can make noise in the postseason.

32 – Rushing yards for Carson Beck

The senior was able to use his legs in critical moments to keep the offense on the field. Beck turned a busted play into a touchdown, scrambling right up the middle of the field for six. After the game, Coach Smart was asked about Beck considering himself somewhat of a dual-threat quarterback. Smart nodded and said, “That’s a stretch.” While he may not be a “dual-threat”, his ability to scramble when needed gives a great element to the offensive attack.

‌1 – of the best environments Sanford has seen

The fanbase came together in the week leading up to the night game against Tennessee. Both fans and players called for a blackout, and although the team was not in black jerseys, Sanford stadium looked as intimidating as ever. The combination of the crowd, production, and product on the field put together quite the atmosphere. This game may have been the biggest of Kirby Smart’s head coaching career. He thanked the crowd in his postgame press conference, and it absolutely made an impact throughout. As a bonus, there were plenty of high-profile recruits in the stands, and if this type of experience doesn’t make them want to play for Georgia, who knows what will.

8 – Straight wins against Tennessee

The victory over the No. 7 Volunteers marks the eighth straight time that Georgia has defeated their rival. This says a lot about where the program has been over the last few seasons, as one of the biggest keys to success for a program is to beat your rivals year after year. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is now 0-4 against Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, leaving Volunteer fans frustrated yet again. Huepel will need to get over this hurdle if he ever wants to get his team atop the SEC standings and to Atlanta.
