The Georgia Lady Bulldogs were defeated on Sunday afternoon by the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Georgia’s second conference home game of the week, 79-68.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs stayed on top for the entire game against the Georgia Lady Bulldogs. MSU had several three-point shots from Chandler Prater, Jerkaila Jordan, and Debreasha Powe in the first half of the game.
At the end of the second quarter, MSU was beating the Lady Bulldogs offensively. Their largest lead was 15 points, and Georgia’s was three points. The MSU Bulldogs were up 41-27 after the second quarter.
Throughout the second half of the game, the Georgia Lady Bulldogs grew more aggressive and tightened the score. Freshman Trinity Turner took the lead offensively, scoring 23 points in total. Senior Asia Avinger and freshman Summer Davis scored threes in the second half. Avinger totaled 15 points in Sunday’s game.
Georgia head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson spoke about the team’s offense.
“We only had seven players available today, so the lineups were completely different,” Abrahamson-Henderson said. “I was playing De’Mauri, Asia, Summer, and Trinity, four point guards that turned it up really fast.”
Despite Avinger and Turner’s offensive efforts, the Mississippi State Bulldogs drove home with a win, 79-68. The Lady Bulldogs are now 9-9 overall and 1-3 in the Southeastern Conference.
Abrahamson-Henderson also spoke about the team’s preparation for their upcoming conference game on the road.
“I think we’re just getting better and better,” she said. “Our preparation is going to be the same. We have to keep working on our young kids and keep Asia, De’Mauri and Roxy locked in.”
Next up, the Lady Bulldogs are on the road to College Station, Texas for another SEC matchup. Georgia will face Texas A&M on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. ET.
