The Diamond Dawgs have caught fire over the last few series, sweeping Florida and Auburn and taking down West Georgia in a midweek game for eight straight wins. With 14 home runs on the season, Ryland Zaborowski has emerged as one of the nation’s most powerful sluggers. Right on his heels is teammate Robbie Burnett, who is second in the nation in total home runs with 13. These two Dawgs have propelled the team to a 28-2 start, going 8-1 in conference play. Not only did the Dawgs remain inside the top three nationally, but they also sit atop the team home run leaderboard with 74 homers, 13 clear of Tennessee (No. 2).

Last weekend in Gainesville, Zaborowski’s ninth inning homer gave Georgia an 8-7 victory. In the other two games, Georgia scored 32 runs on 12 home runs while only allowing six runs. The pitching staff was impressive as well, holding the Gators to 13 runs for the series. Four more home runs led the Dawgs past West Georgia on Tuesday before a critical series with the No. 11 Auburn Tigers.

The series opener against Auburn showcased pitching dominance from Kolten Smith who struck out eight batters in five innings of relief for a 4-1 win. The bats came back alive in the double-header on Saturday, scoring a combined 20 runs. The highlight of the weekend goes to Dan Jackson, who hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning to walk it off and send the Tigers back to Alabama swept. This weekend, Georgia travels to Austin for a three-game series with Texas, who currently sits at seven in the national poll.

Overall, Bulldawg Nation could not have asked for a better start to the season. The ball is flying out of Foley Field and the pitching staff is starting to tighten up as the season progresses. The team will continue to be tested in Austin and beyond, but until the bats cool off, there’s not a team in the nation that can keep the Dawgs out of Omaha.
