The Starting Five

• Georgia hosts Florida on Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum, the 234th meeting between UGA and UF on the hardwood. Florida is Georgia’s most frequent foe in hoops (Auburn is second at 202).

• The Bulldogs are coming off an 83-71 win at LSU on Saturday, where they rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit. UGA has trailed by double figures in four of its 17 victories this season.

• Georgia leads the nation in percentage of field goals that are dunks at 18.7 percent (145 of 274 FG). Somto Cyril leads the “Dunkyard Dawgs” with 59 rim-rattling finishes, which as of Monday ranked No. 3 nationally and is 21 more than any other SEC player.

• Kanon Catchings continues his hot streak that began nine games ago in Gainesville. After averaging 8.3 ppg in the first 14 games, he is putting up 15.3 ppg thereafter with eight double-digit outings.

• Winter Haven, Fla., native Dylan James was a bright spot in Georgia’s matchup at Florida on Jan. 6, with a career-high 16 points and a team-high six rebounds in 20 minutes of PT in Gainesville.

The Opening Tip

Georgia hosts Florida on Wednesday evening, a rematch of one of Stegeman Coliseum’s most memorable matchups in the past decade last season.

On Feb. 25, the Bulldogs sprinted to a 26-point lead less than eight minutes after the opening tip. No. 3 Florida methodically chipped away at that margin and eventually took the lead with 68 seconds left before a Blue Cain 3-pointer ignited a 10-3 run to end the evening…and cue a court storming.

That sparked a four-game winning streak that locked up Georgia’s first NCAA bid in a decade. It also was the Gators’ last loss of the season.

Georgia is coming off an 83-71 victory at LSU last Saturday, the Bulldogs’ third SEC road win and fourth road “W” of the season (adding a 107-73 win at Florida State in the ACC/SEC Challenge).

Georgia’s statistical resume for the 2025-26 campaign is incredibly impressive.

As of Monday, the Bulldogs were ranked in the top 25 nationally in 10 of the 28 statistics tracked by the NCAA, including leading all 365 Division I programs in fastbreak points (22.3 ppg) and blocks (6.9 bpg) and ranking second in scoring offense (91.9 ppg).

Georgia has a deep rotations playing at a pace among the country’s quickest.

Eleven Bulldogs are averaging double-figure minutes, and according to the oft-used metric KenPom.com, Georgia entered this week ranked No. 7 nationally in adjusted tempo (72.8) and No. 8 in average offensive possession length (15.0).

Georgia’s depth is not just in numbers but also in its offensive production.

Ten of the 11 Bulldogs playing double-digit minutes have scored 10+ points in a game, combining to record 95 double-figure scoring outputs this season.

Jeremiah Wilkinson is averaging a team-high 17.1 ppg, while Blue Cain is contributing 13.2 ppg, Marcus “Smurf” Millender is chipping in 11.7 ppg and Kanon Catchings is adding 11.2 ppg.

Scouting The Gators

Florida is 17-6 overall and 7-2 in SEC play entering Wednesday’s game. The Gators have won seven of their last eight outings after dropping their SEC opener at Missouri.

Thomas Haugh leads a quintet of starters scoring at a double-figure pace for Florida at 17.8 ppg. Alex Condon chips in 13.4 ppg, Rueben Chinyelu adds 12.0, Boogie Fland scores 11.3 ppg and Xavian Lee rounds out the group at 10.7 ppg. Urban Klavzar is just shy of a sixth 10+ point producer at 9.8 ppg off the bench.

Chinyelu paces the SEC in rebounds at 11.5 rpg, making him the only player in the league averaging a double-double.

Series History With Florida

Despite Georgia’s 64-45 advantage in games played in Athens, Florida possesses a 127-106 edge in the all-time hardwood series between the Bulldogs and the Gators. A recap of the series can be found in the column to the left.

In the most recent matchup at Stegeman last Feb. 25, Georgia notched an 88-82 upset of No. 3/3 Florida before a raucous sellout crowd at Stegeman Coliseum.

Georgia, led by 26 points early, was up by 16 points at the intermission and by double digits until the 11:08 mark of the second stanza. The Gators used a 13-0 surge to go up 80-78 at the 1:08 mark before Blue Cain knocked down a 3-pointer to open a 10-3 run by the Bulldogs over the final 47 seconds.

The victory was Georgia’s first over a top-3 team since the Bulldogs bested No. 3 Georgia Tech, 83-80, in double overtime on Jan. 3, 2004.

Just over a month ago in Gainesville, Marcus “Smurf” Millender led Georgia with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and Dylan James scored a career-high 16 points; however, the Bulldogs fell 92-77 at Florida.

Georgia trailed 41-40 at halftime but was outscored 51-27 following the intermission.

Last Time Out

Kanon Catchings equaled his career high with 23 points to lead Georgia in an 83-71 win at LSU last Saturday night.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, trailing 31-16 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Georgia then ended the first half and opened the second stanza on a 29-6 run to go up 45-27 and maintained a two-possession lead the rest of the evening.

“We settled in and probably played as good of a 30 minutes collectively, defensively, as we’ve played all year,” head coach Mike White said. “And that’s what it takes to win on the road in this league. Proud of the effort. A lot of carryover from practice. These guys worked hard and their attention to detail was pretty good against an LSU team that’s capable of beating anyone in our league. This was a big win for us.”

Gators Are Georgia’s Most Frequent Foe

Georgia and Florida will face off for the 233rd time on Wednesday, the most games the Bulldogs have played against any opponent. Rounding out the top-5 foes in games played are Auburn at 202, Georgia Tech at 201, Tennessee at 163, and Kentucky at 161.
