Seventh-ranked Georgia will compete on the road for the first time this season when it faces 17th-ranked Denver here this afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. The Gymdogs are coming off a 195.800-195.225 win over Missouri Friday night in Stegeman Coliseum in the SEC opener for both teams. Denver won its home opener Saturday against Utah State, 196.025-194.525.

Georgia-Denver History
Georgia and Denver will meet for the 16th time on Saturday and the fifth time in Denver. The teams last met in 2014 with Georgia winning 197.025-195.825. In 2011, the Gymdogs traveled to Denver for a quad meet with DU, Air Force and BYU. UGA placed first and Denver was third. Current Georgia assistant coach Jay Hogue was an assistant coach at DU before coming to Athens in May 2012. Carl Leland is in his 17th year as an assistant coach at Denver. He was an assistant coach at Georgia from 1983-87, and he earned a master’s degree from UGA in 1989. He was an assistant under Suzanne Yoculan on the Gym Dogs’ first NCAA championship team in 1987.

Georgia claimed its first win of the 2015 season as it defeated Missouri, 195.800-195.225, in the SEC opener for both teams Friday in Athens. The Gymdogs never trailed and were sparked by a 9.95 on vault by Brandie Jay in the first rotation. Georgia turned in the high individual score on all four events. In addition to Jay’s 9.95 on vault, Chelsea Davis claimed top honors on bars with a 9.9, Ashlyn Broussard won her first career event title with a 9.875 on beam, and Mary Beth Box win floor with a 9.875.

• Junior Brandie Jay turned in the high score of the meet in both of Georgia’s competitions this season. She scored a 9.925 on vault vs. Michigan and a 9.95 on vault against Missouri.
• Senior Sarah Persinger competed the all-around Friday night against Missouri for the third time in her career and the first time since she was a freshman in 2012. She competed on vault, beam and floor in the opener and exhibitioned on bars.
• Monday afternoon’s meet against Denver is the third Georgia meet in 10 days to start the 2015 season. The Gymdogs will actually compete four times in a span of 15 days as Kentucky visits Athens on Saturday.
• Fourteen of Georgia’s 24 routines Friday night against Missouri were performed by freshmen or sophomores. The 2015 UGA roser consists of 11 freshmen and sophomores.
