[su_spacer size=”20″] The No. 7/7 Georgia softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to the No. 15/18 Tennessee Lady Vols on Saturday, March 28 at Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. With the loss, Georgia falls to 29-6 on the season that includes a 6-4 mark Southeastern Conference play. Tennessee is now 24-7 on the year and 4-3 in the SEC.

Chelsea Wilkinson suffered the loss to fall to 17-5 on the year. She allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings in the circle. She also struck out six batters. Cheyanne Tarango got the win to improve to 2-1. She threw the final four innings, allowing just one run on one hit. Erin Gabriel earned the start and threw 3.0 innings. She allowed two runs on four hits and two walks. She also struck out three.

Georgia struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Anna Swafford took the first pitch she saw deep over the wall in left center for her eighth home run of the year.

Alex Hugo led off the top of the third with a double down the left field line and into the corner. She came home on a looper to shallow left by Katie Browne, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning. A walk and a Tennessee error put runners on for Wilson, who lifted a 2-0 pitch to left for a sacrifice fly.

Tennessee looked to strike in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases with one out. Wilkinson settled in to record a strikeout before getting the final batter to pop up to Hugo at second, leaving the bases loaded.

The Lady Vols cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Annie Aldrete.

Trailing by one in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Vols hit back-to-back home runs to seal the 4-3 come-from-behind-win.

Georgia and Tennessee resume the series tomorrow, Sunday, March 29 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
