Bulldawg Illustrated is counting down the days till the Dawgs kickoff their college football season in Bulldawgs Countdown to Kickoff 2015, and we are down to number 26 Malcolm Mitchell.
[su_spacer size=”20″] Malcolm Mitchell burst onto the field for the Dawgs as a freshman wide receiver back in 2011 finishing second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards behind Tavarress King with 45 for 665 yards and 4 touchdowns, which earned him a spot on the SEC Coaches All-SEC Freshman team. Mitchell came to UGA as a member of the 2011 recruiting class after graduating from Valdosta high school out of Valdosta, GA where he played varsity football for coach Rance Gillespie.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Mitchell’s sophomore campaign in 2012 started off on defense at CB due to depth in the secondary as a result of injuries and suspensions, but he found himself back on offense at receiver after the fourth game of the season. He finished the season with 40 catches for 572 yards and 4 touchdowns.
[su_spacer size=”40″] With Tavarress King graduating, Malcolm Mitchell was poised to have a big year as one of the two starting receivers and a senior QB, Aaron Murray throwing him ropes. However, it was not meant to be as the junior would tear his ACL in the first game of the season versus Clemson in the first quarter celebrating with team mate Todd Gurley after a Georgia score. He was able to redshirt to preserve his eligibility.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Last year, the fourth year junior had a successful return from his knee injury playing in 8 games and starting 3 producing 31 receptions for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mitchell decided to return for his senior season to finish out his collegiate career with the Dawgs. Mitchell is more than just a football player though.
