Another coaching position on the offensive side of the ball has been filled by Kirby Smart and UGA as they have announced the hiring of Sam Pittman to be the new Offensive Line coach.
Pittman is another veteran collegiate coach with over 30 years of experience. He comes over from Arkansas where he has served as the Razorbacks Offensive Line coach since 2013 as well as an Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. He has had 8 offensive linemen he has coached drafted to the NFL in the last 2 years. Before Arkansas, Pittman coached the offensive line at Tennessee in 2012 and North Carolina from 2007-2011. He was also the Tarheel’s Assistant Head Coach in 2011.
He has also served as an offensive line coach for Northern Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Western Michigan, Oklahoma, and Cincinnati. The season coach played college football at and graduated from Pittsburg State. While there he was named a first-team NAIA All-American, and he also earned all-conference recognition twice. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1986 from Pittsburg State, he was inducted into the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.
With the hiring of Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney and Offensive Line coach Sam Pittman, Coach Smart has filled 2 positions on the offensive staff, and it appears that he will retain Georgia’s current Running Backs coach Thomas Brown.
