Georgia track and field senior Chanice Porter has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, according to a league announcement.

Porter, a native of Prattville, Jamaica, reached the 6-foot mark for the first time in her indoor high jump career at Georgia. Then, she worked her way to a personal-best mark of 6-1.50 to tally her first indoor victory in the event at the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet.

Porter’s clearance surged her into a tie for second on the national list as well as a tie for fifth on Georgia’s all-time top-10 list. One of four Lady Bulldogs who has already hit 6 feet this season, Porter also remains third on the national list in the long jump (21-7.25).

Porter is the first Lady Bulldog and third Georgia team member to earn an SEC weekly award this season. Denzel Comenentia was named the league’s Freshman of the Week on January 26 and Garrett Scantling garnered Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors on February 2.

The Bulldogs return to action at a trio of meets over the coming weekend. A Bulldog 4×400-meter relay team is headed to Nashville, Tenn., for the Music City Challenge. Seven Georgia distance runners are scheduled to fly to Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic. Finally, 45 more Bulldogs are slated to make the trip to Birmingham, Ala., for the Samford Open and Samford Invitational, which run on Friday and Saturday at the site of this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12).

Live stats and full results from all three meets this weekend will be posted at georgiadogs.com.
