Kirby Smart has not minced words about Georgia’s lack of overall depth. This morning, in an interview with Atlanta radio station 680 The Fan he repeated his concerns in the wake of his first opportunity to examine his squad after national signing day.

I think when you say the first 22, it is very comparable. Once you get past the first 22, it is very deficient, and there is not as much depth there, and that is probably the most concerning thing for me.”

Quality depth is the answer to winning SEC championships and competing in the College Football Playoff. Georgia’s head coach is telling the fanbase that he has concerns about the team’s current depth. Are we listening to a new head coach verbalize his nightmares or a savvy SEC veteran managing expectations…or a bit of both?
