The No. 2 Georgia equestrian team looks on to a dual-meet weekend at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. The Bulldogs will welcome No. 10 Kansas State on Friday, Feb. 26 for a 10 a.m. meeting. The team will then host a neutral meet between Kansas State and No. 8 Fresno State Friday afternoon. Georgia will take on Fresno State Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. Georgia starts the weekend with a 7-2 record, including a 4-2 mark in Southeastern Conference action.
“Kansas State and Fresno State are both very good teams,” Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. “We’re very excited to be hosting this dual-meet and to have a former rider, McKenzie Lantz, coming back as a coach for Fresno State. This weekend is great preparation for us as we get our last regular-season home meet under our belt and very quickly head to post-season.”
Georgia and Kansas State have yet to compete this season. The teams last met during the 2014-15 season, when the Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats X-X in the semifinal round of the national championship. Prior to that, Georgia defeated KSU 14-4 at a neutral location in Martin, Tennessee. The Wildcats currently own a 3-4 record on the season.
Georgia and Fresno State last met in the fall at a neutral-site meet hosted by Delaware State. During that meet, Georgia battled back in the final event to defeat Fresno State 12-8. Fresno State is currently 3-5 on the season.
This weekend marks the final meets at home for the regular-season. Georgia will honor the 14 seniors on their roster prior to competition on Saturday.
“We’re looking forward to honoring our incredible group of seniors and the fantastic leaders that they are,” Boenig said.
The Bulldogs will close out regular-season competition on the road against New Mexico State on March 5.
Post-season will begin with the SEC Championship on March 25-26, which will be held at the UGA Equestrian Complex with Georgia serving as the host.
