Georgia men’s tennis player Paul Oosterbaan was named SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Kalamazoo, Michigan native led Georgia to a pair of wins over ranked conference opponents this past weekend. The Bulldogs downed No. 50 Mississippi State Friday afternoon 5-2, before defeating 49th-ranked Alabama on Sunday 6-1.
Oosterbaan went 2-0 on the weekend in singles action, defeating two ranked opponents. The redshirt-sophomore took down Mississippi State’s Rishab Agarwal, who was ranked No. 74 and riding an eight-match win streak at the time, 6-2, 6-4, He followed that by handily beating Alabama’s Becker O’Shaughnessy 6-0, 6-2.
Oosterbaan teamed up with freshman Jan Zielinski in doubles for one victory against Alabama’s duo of O’Shaughnessey and Grayson Goldin.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET with a trip to Nashville, Tennessee to face the Vanderbilt Commodores.
