Armed with 15 swimmers and one diver, the Georgia men are set to compete this week in Atlanta in the swimming and diving NCAA Championships and will be aiming for their eighth Top-10 finish in the last nine seasons.
 
 
The NCAAs will take place Wednesday through Saturday at McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus. The meet will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the 800 freestyle relay finals. Prelims for the remaining days will be at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
 
 
Georgia will use a swimming lineup of Gunnar Bentz, Powell Brooks, Pace Clark, Taylor Dale, James Guest, Matias Koski, Jay Litherland, Kevin Litherland, Mick Litherland, Garrett Powell, Ty Stewart and Michael Trice. Blake Atmore, Aidan Burns and John Mattern will add support as relay alternates, while Ian Forlini will handle the diving responsibilities.
 
 
Bentz and Koski will swim the maximum three events, while Clark, Dale, Forlini and Trice will compete in two each. Jay Litherland and Bentz rank 1-2 in the country in the 400 individual medley entering the meet.
 
 
The Bulldogs placed fifth in 2014 and seventh in 2015 and they believe a Top-5 effort is possible for 2016.
 
 
“I think that’s a reasonable goal,” Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. “I like the way they’re thinking. I’m onboard with that. … Truthfully, I don’t really say much to them about placing but I do tell them about my expectations for us to swim well. I want them to own up to what they think they can do and then back it up. We can’t control what others do. All we can do is swim as fast as possible. Everybody on this travel team is important. It’s a good group, a fun group, and I’m looking forward to going to war with them.”
 
 
All prelims and the Wednesday and Thursday finals will be streamed on RamblinWreck.com. ESPN3 will stream the finals Friday and Saturday. A highlights show will be broadcast on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
