Tenth-ranked Mississippi State rallied past Georgia 3-1 in front of a crowd of 7,497 at Polk-Dement Stadium Friday.
 
 
State (17-6, 4-1 SEC) did not have a hit until rallying back in the seventh down 1-0. With one out, John Holland reached on a single to deep shortstop. Then pinch-hitter Elih Marrero followed with a base hit to centerfield. Jacob Robson lined a grounder to freshman third baseman LJ Talley who threw wide of the bag at second, allowing the tying run to score. Later in the frame, first baseman Nathan Lowe provided the go-ahead RBI-single to make it 2-1 as both runs were unearned.
 
 

 
 
Georgia (14-10, 1-4 SEC) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Talley. The inning started with the Bulldogs loading the bases as Keegan McGovern drew a walk, Michael Curry smacked a single and Trevor Kieboom reached on a bunt single. State starter Austin Sexton pitched out of further trouble to keep it a tight contest. In the seventh, Georgia turned to junior Drew Moody in relief of Robert Tyler.
 
 
Tyler went six scoreless and hitless innings with six walks and six strikeouts for a no decision. Sexton allowed one run on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. State reliever Ryan Rigby picked up a win with three scoreless frames to move his record to 2-0 while Moody (0-2) got the loss, allowing three runs (only one earned) on five hits in 1.2 innings. State added an insurance run in the eighth before Georgia looked to freshman Blakely Brown who registered a strikeout to strand a pair of State runners.
 
 
“We gave them too many opportunities to cash in during the seventh and eighth innings; it was a tough loss,” Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin said. “We had a 1-0 lead in front of a big crowd on the road against a good team, and we let it slip away. They made the pitches when they needed too. We had our chances and only got one run with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth.”
 
 
The SEC series concludes Sunday with first pitch at 3:04 p.m. ET, and it will be available on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldogs Sports Network from IMG. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for Saturday.
