This week NCAA member institution will vote on proposals that would limit the satellite camps that have become popular with programs outside the South. Michigan and others have held camps in areas with high concentrations of talented recruits while the SEC and ACC prohibit their teams from conducting off-campus recruiting efforts. However, the SEC prohibition is set to expire this spring and some members have already begun planning for the new order.
 
 
According to ESPN recruiting analyst Jeremy Crabtree, it does not appear the legislation to be voted on this week would eliminate off-campus practices like the recent Michigan foray into Florida during spring break. Michigan’s practice week at IMG academy led to Kirby Smart innocuous comment during an appearance in Macon that was pounced upon on by Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to the delight of SEC haters everywhere:

For the vote to successfully prohibit the camps a two-thirds majority is needed. Should the vote fail, Crabtree reported yesterday that “SEC programs” are getting ready to jump into the satellite camps business. Here is what Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin told Crabtree:
 

“Our commissioner (Greg Sankey) has spoken and said if it’s not revised or revoked, then we’re going to be able to do it,” Sumlin said Monday.
 
“I know there are a number of SEC programs that are set and ready to go if it happens. We will have satellite camps outside of the state. We’re ready to go. They’re already on the calendar. We’ve got some tentative dates and locations set, so that if things go a certain way, we can be prepared to go. We’re not the only SEC team that’s doing that, too.”

 
 
TAMU in Souther Ohio? Georgia in Jersey or Tidewater Virginia? LSU in LA? That should add some spice to the summer should the NCAA vote fail.
